By the time your child reaches grade school, if he or she has non-verbal learning issues, it will likely show up by then. One of the first signs of NVLD is difficulty grasping what he or she has read, either at home or at school. They also share unnecessary or endless information on a topic.
A child with NVLD doesn’t always understand sarcasm or humor either. They may not get jokes or understand when they’re at the heart of teasing. They also do not a shift in their routine and have trouble going from one activity to another. They may agitate at the thought of eating at a new restaurant or when an assembly interrupts a typical class schedule.
