India Launches Major Initiative for AI-Powered Inclusive Education

The Government of India has unveiled a comprehensive framework to integrate artificial intelligence into education at every level, with a particular focus on supporting children who learn differently. The IndiaAI Mission, launched in March 2024 with a budget of ₹10,371.92 crore over five years, represents one of the world’s largest investments in educational technology. This initiative aims to position India as a global AI leader while ensuring that technological advances benefit all students, including those requiring specialized learning support.

At the school level, the Ministry of Education has integrated AI into curricula through CBSE and NCERT, beginning with students in Class IX under the National Education Policy 2020. CBSE currently offers a 15-hour AI skill module from Class VI onwards, with AI available as an optional subject for students in Classes IX through XII. NCERT has incorporated AI-related topics into Class XI Computer Science and Informatics Practices textbooks, ensuring students gain exposure to these transformative technologies.
