India’s Largest Science Initiative Transforms Student Learning

AP Science City in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, has launched “Science Samagra Mahotsav – 2K26,” an ambitious program that’s captured national and Asian recognition by bringing hands-on science to over 30,000 students across 4,118 schools. The program targets students in Classes 6 through 9—ages when scientific curiosity can either flourish or fade.

What makes this initiative remarkable is its scale and structure. Students from both government and private schools submitted innovative science projects evaluated through a rigorous four-stage selection process: village, mandal, district, and finally state-level competitions. Expert juries assessed projects on innovation, scientific clarity, practical applicability, teamwork, and environmental sustainability. One project from each of the 26 districts was ultimately selected.
