;Dyslexia is a neurological condition that affects as many as one in five people. It often goes undiagnosed because many teachers haven’t been trained to recognize it. This can often lead to a tragic waste of potential because many dyslexics are very bright, and with early intervention can learn to read more fluently. The usual methods of teaching reading don’t work for dyslexics, who do better when they are taught by “phonemic” methods. State Sen. Aaron Osmond (R-S.Jordan) has introduced a bill which would train Utah teachers to recognize dyslexia and learn to work with afflicted students.
