Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana held a luncheon on April 24, 2015 to raise awareness and discuss dyslexia and what is being done to improve the treatment and diagnosis of such. Early screening (before a child is actually reading per se) was cited as key to recognizing and treating the disorder in schools. Senator Cassidy started a petition to rally support and awareness for research and treatment of dyslexia among lawmakers. In 2012 the Senator launched the “US Congressional Dyslexia Caucus in a similar vein and attempt at awareness of dyslexia. On hand were two speakers from Yale School of Medicine discussing their latest findings from their book about the science behind dyslexia as well as the importance of “early detection”.
