Twelve-year-old Toronto resident Lili Keenan prepares excitedly to return to school for her grade eight year. She is dyslexic, and has experienced trouble reading and writing since Kindergarten. This has caused her a great deal of turmoil, leading to scoldings from teachers. The disease affects two of her three sisters, as well.

Dyslexia is a learning handicap with regards to language. Sufferers may have a difficult time pronouncing or spelling words in addition to reading. Financial executive Keith Gray, who is himself an 81-year-old dyslexia sufferer, leads a group called Dyslexia Canada, who are petitioning the government for Canadian guidelines regarding the education of dyslexia sufferers.
