Texas study finds quality pre-K linked with 3rd grade performance

A study in Texas was done to find out of early learning as in a full day program of Pre-K shows higher success in reading by the time they reach 3rd grade. The study was done by pre-K program which is publicly funded and reaches out to students that have low incomes, on reduced lunch, or aiding factor.

December report on Texas pre-K found that offering full-day programs, investing in quality pre-K, and overall elementary school ratings on academic indicators were associated with children’s third grade success in reading.

The state has run an early learning program with Pre-K publicly for 20 years. While students perform better in later years schooling with the pre-K program, only 30th in the state for funding. This is due to the lack of teacher degrees and teacher to student ratios issues. There are proposals that could help the students and teachers call formula funding.
