The Basics of Open Technology

This century is driven by modern technology and children today are immune to the use of laptops, smartphones, tablets etc. Schools have been incorporating the use of these modern technologies especially the infamous laptop. In addition to providing laptops for students, they are also given a variety of software to work with. This enables the student to make decisions on their own in deciding which software is better suited for the task at hand. It allows the student to have some level of independence.

Albemarle Public Schools give students in grades 6-12 laptop computers with freedom to use and choose a variety of tools downloaded on them. The schools cope with students making mistakes and they take effective action to make the internet accessible to all of their students, no matter the demographics.

The availability of these laptops has also assisted in pursuing equality among students. Underprivileged students are given wifi access if it is not available at home. Parents are able to have a better open communication with their children. Students are given the opportunity to be responsible and knowing that if they make a mistake that it is okay. Schools providing this to their students are producing better citizens of tomorrow.
