Through the use of a technique called “dialogue circles”, teachers and administrators at Oakland, CA?s Glenview Elementary School are seeing improvement in classroom dynamics and behavior among its Kindergarten through Grade 5 students. Dialogue circles are special gatherings intended to foster open communication, respect, conflict resolution, collaboration, and academic success. Dialogue circles follow a general format with students and teachers, and even parents, seated in a circle facing one another. In the circles, a variety of activities are performed to further objectives such as problem-solving, trust-building, and academic support.
