Navigating Early Dyspraxia Diagnosis Challenges
Professor Amanda Kirby shared her experience with her son’s dyspraxia diagnosis at three years old, highlighting the limited understanding and support available over 30 years ago. At the time, she was told her son would “grow out of it,” reflecting the lack of knowledge about dyspraxia. When she informed his school about his condition, they confused it with dyslexia, despite her son being diagnosed with both. Kirby had to seek out information and support independently, underscoring the challenges parents faced. This experience emphasizes the importance of parents advocating for their children with dyspraxia and finding resources and communities that can offer the necessary support and information.
