Advocate for Teacher Professional Development
A study conducted by the National Staff Development Council highlighted the critical need for teachers to engage in 30 to 100 hours of professional development over six to twelve months to effectively shift to inquiry-oriented teaching practices. This research underscores the importance of sufficient professional development time for educators. Parents should be aware of these findings and advocate for their children’s schools to allocate adequate resources for teacher training. For instance, schools that implement regular, structured professional development sessions enable teachers to better adopt new educational strategies, which can directly benefit student learning outcomes. This insight means that parents can play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of education their children receive by supporting and pushing for robust professional development programs in their schools.
