Corporations control a major factor in the education industry by dominating the textbook and standardized testing industry. One of the largest test assessment companies is Pearson. They are also one of the biggest textbook publishers. The Gates Foundation and Pearson worked together to make k-12 courses and Common Core. To replace failing public schools, there has been an increasing number of charter schools. 6.3% of schools are charter schools and about $11,000 is received for each student. The money in privatization comes from teachers by cutting instruction money. In some states like Ohio, teachers at charter schools only make 59% of public school teachers. More than $25 billion in money from taxpayers are going to these private companies. Data also shows that charter schools aren’t necessarily succeeding at turning around failing schools.
