Those studies measured brain activity, not a change in physical structure, and a 2022 review of 39 of them (Perdue and colleagues) found they do not all point to the same set of changes. The Practice That Helps, and the Promise That Does Not

When Melby-Lervag and colleagues (2016) pooled 87 studies of brain-training and working-memory programs, children reliably got better at the trained game and showed no convincing carry-over to reading or arithmetic.
