Shown in the provided infographic are statistics related to traumatic brain injuries or TBIs for short. Falls are the leading cause of TBIs, followed by motor vehicle accidents. The young and elderly are most likely the experience a TBI then other groups. While it is known that 300,000 young people experience a TBI every year the exact number is expected to be much higher. This is largely due to the fact that many of these injuries occur while playing a sport, and approximately 90% of all athletes do not lose consciousness. Presumably, they could have a TBI without even realizing it. Among those who experience TBIs, 15% have symptoms that last beyond a year. These symptoms include fatigue, headaches, and memory loss. Additionally, emotional problems, depression, and seizures are associated with TBI’s as well.
