You went to the evaluation. They handed you a report: one domain, one score, one set of recommendations. The Form Was Built to Unlock a Service. It Was Never Built to Map a Child.

Special education eligibility requires a measured deficit in a specific domain. The instrument scores one column, reading, mathematics, written expression, and the threshold question is whether the score falls below the line that qualifies for services. That is the form’s job. The problem is that the form’s job and the parent’s job are different.

A child whose difficulties emerge from all three factors, a genetic predisposition that shapes processing tendencies, a neurobiological pattern that affects how information travels through the brain, and an environment that has not yet delivered the right kind of targeted practice, receives a score in one of those columns. The other two are not measured by the same instrument. They are not absent from the child. They are absent from the report.
