The 2025 IDA definition dropped the intelligence-discrepancy requirement, and the researchers behind the revision give the reason: those discrepancy approaches lacked predictive validity. In plain terms, a capable child who finds reading hard is the expected picture, not a contradiction. The failure here was never your child. It was a system that spent two decades casting a smart, struggling child as a paradox instead of a child whose learning runs on more than one system, with one of those systems needing to be built first.
