Utah Valley University has created a math “camp”, the goal of which is to make what has formerly been perceived as a boring school subject, math, more interesting to students by teaching math using non-traditional hands-on approaches. For instance, students learn about angles and momentum by building rockets. The approach has been used to teach advanced math concepts in game theory (the prisoner’s dilemma) and the golden ratio to students. The program has been well received. Student and parent feedback on the program has been positive.
