Mathematics can be beneficial to programming, and vice versa, but not without context. Mathematics lacks motivation, whereas programming is by its vary nature goal-oriented. The problem can come, however, where programmers must teach the mathematical fundamentals to students of programming.

It should be noted that there is a distinction between mathematics and arithmetic. Arithmetic is the calculating that people misrepresent as the concepts, theories, and methods. Being good at it isn’t the same and doesn’t necessarily suggests that someone is good at math. This is a crucial point and can be key in facilitating the learning of programming.
