Though math and science education is becoming increasingly important in elementary and secondary schools, increased focus on these fields is not found in early childhood programs nearly as often, with several studies showing that preschool programs can spend as little as 1% of their time teaching science. With research showing that older childrens’ performance on math and science is heavily dependent on their early success, teachers are now getting creative to incorporate age-appropriate lessons on STEM topics, ranging from shape identifying (geometry) and using scenes from popular movies to explain scientific concepts.
