Teachers at Arnold Elementary School in Michigan Center, Michigan, were trained in new techniques of teaching mathematics during August 2014, which have been implemented in the 2014-15 school year. According to Scott Koziol, superintendent of the Michigan Center district, these techniques focus on getting the children to understand how math works instead of simply drilling to get the right answers. The teachers appeared before the school board to discuss the success of the program, which will also be implemented in another district school in the fall of 2015.
