Alta Vista Elementary school has started blending its math and science classes, by placing students in different grades in the same math and science classes. This program is meant to ensure that students are learning at the right pace, no matter their age. Teachers have their students sit in clusters and teach the students in groups. The students learn not just math, but also critical thinking skills. Finally, the teaching program does not give out traditional grades; instead, the teachers provide specific feedback on individual skills.
