A study has revealed that roughly one in five people who say they’re bad at math, actually are in the top 50 percent, while one third of people who said that they were good at math scored in the bottom 50 percent. Do you think that you are a good judge of your math abilities? The good news is thinking you’re good at math is now considered a new way to actually be good at math, inasmuch as if you think you’re good at math, you’re more likely to complete a difficult problem. Moreover, the person that’s always been really good at taking a look at a bunch of wood and estimating how much he/she needs to build a table turns out to also be a mathematician. Three types of mathematical skills are highlighted here: perceptual skills, computational skills, and rough estimating skills. Strengths in any of these make you a sort of mathematician.
