Six features, one report, and a telling sentiment drop
Quizlet’s August 4 announcement, released alongside its second annual How America Learns report, groups the new tools into three pillars. Study On the Go adds Audio Recording, which turns a live lecture into organized study guides and flashcards, and Podcasts, which converts a student’s notes into conversational audio for the bus ride home. Practice with Confidence adds Spaced Repetition, which the company says “intelligently resurfaces the exact terms a student needs to review, precisely when they need to review them.” Learn and Play Together adds Charms, a puzzle game built from a student’s own practice questions, plus Study With Friends for peer progress tracking and a Google Classroom add-on.
The scale is what raises the stakes. Quizlet reports more than 60 million users globally, including two in three American high school students and one in two college students. CEO Kurt Beidler framed the release around evidence: “In this ever-changing education landscape, we remain committed to finding ways to show measurable impact.”
The report itself carried a surprise. Positive sentiment toward AI in education among the more than 2,000 students, teachers, and parents surveyed fell to 30 percent, down from 43 percent in 2025. At the same time, 60 percent of students said AI made studying more efficient, 37 percent said it lowered schoolwork stress, and 98 percent called adaptive study tools important. Families are not rejecting the technology. They are getting choosier about it, which makes this the right moment to ask which of the six features deserves the trust.

Cramming works for Friday’s quiz and fails for June’s final. A scheduler that resurfaces a term right before it fades is the rare case where the algorithm itself is the evidence-based part, not the marketing.
The lecture recorder earns a conditional yes. Turning a lecture into flashcards produces raw material for retrieval practice, the other pillar of the field: students who practiced pulling answers from memory retained more after two days and a week than students who re-read the same material (Roediger and Karpicke, 2006, in Psychological Science). The catch is that re-listening to a tidy AI summary is restudy, the strategy that feels productive in the moment and fades fastest.
