Dubai Schools Launch AI Literacy Program Reaching 80,500 Students
Last updated:
If you’ve watched your child navigate a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, you’ve probably wondered how schools are preparing them for that reality. You’re not imagining the rapid pace of change—AI is transforming every industry, and the students entering the workforce in the coming decade will need skills that didn’t exist just a few years ago.
That future just got a little brighter for Dubai’s students.
TL;DR
Dubai announced a major AI literacy program for private schools at the World Governments Summit 2026.
The program will reach 80,500 students in Grades 6-8 and involve 3,600 teachers by 2030.
AI concepts will be integrated across six core subjects, teaching students to evaluate and use AI responsibly.
The initiative is a partnership between KHDA, DP World Foundation, and MIT RAISE.
Teacher training and age-appropriate AI tools are key components of the phased rollout.
Major Initiative Unveiled at World Governments Summit
Dubai has announced a landmark AI literacy program for private schools that will benefit approximately 80,500 students across the emirate. The multi-year collaboration between the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), DP World Foundation, and MIT’s Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education (MIT RAISE) was unveiled at the World Governments Summit 2026.
The program targets students in Grades 6-8 (Years 7-9) and will run through February 2030, with around 3,600 teachers involved in the phased rollout. This represents one of the most comprehensive school-based AI literacy initiatives in the region.
Unlike isolated technology courses, this program integrates AI concepts across six core subjects: Mathematics, Science, Computing, Art, English, and Arabic. Students will learn how AI systems work, how to evaluate AI-generated outputs, and how to use AI tools responsibly in everyday classroom activities.
The curriculum emphasizes practical skills over theoretical knowledge—teaching students not just to use AI, but to question and critically assess it. Teachers will receive professional development, implementation guidance, and access to classroom-ready resources, along with a curated portal of learning-appropriate AI tools designed for supervised use.

Building Future-Ready Skills
The initiative also includes AI Enrichment for High School Students, adapted from MIT’s Future Makers and Builders model. This hybrid program runs during school breaks—four weeks online followed by one week in-person—featuring mentorship, team-based capstone projects, and entrepreneurial pitch presentations.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, emphasized: “AI will shape every industry, and every job. Empowering Teachers and Students
Aisha Miran, Director General of KHDA, noted that the collaboration supports Dubai’s Education 33 strategy and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). “By embedding AI literacy across everyday learning, we are preparing students not just to use emerging technologies, but to think critically, act responsibly and contribute confidently to a fast-evolving economy,” she said.
Professor Cynthia Breazeal, Director of MIT RAISE, added that the program builds on MIT’s global experience while adapting to Dubai’s context—supporting responsible practice and building local capacity.

This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking approach we need more of in education. Instead of waiting for systems to catch up, Dubai is proactively equipping young people with the skills they’ll actually need in an AI-enabled world.
The emphasis on responsible AI use—teaching students not just to use technology, but to question and evaluate it—reflects what Learning Success has always believed: empower learners with skills, not just information.
