Summit Academy Charter School in Red Hook hosted its inaugural Maker Faire on March 11, featuring student-designed STEAM projects that showcased creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit. The event was a celebration of the students’ hard work and dedication to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education.
The Maker Faire was a hands-on celebration of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit. The event featured various student-designed STEAM projects, including DNA extraction, cosmetic chemistry, robotics, prosthetic arm design, and coded educational games.
The students’ projects were showcased in an exhibit-style format, allowing attendees to interact with the students and learn about their projects. The exhibits included a prosthetic arm, a study on how music impacts focus, an art mural of famous Red Hook residents, a sustainability project, and an educational video game coded and designed by the students.
The Maker Faire was an incredible opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity and innovation, and we are proud of their hard work and dedication to STEAM education.
"The Maker Faire was held in partnership with PAVE Academy Charter School, and six colleges and universities provided students and families with information on higher-education pathways, admissions, scholarships, and STEAM academic programs.
The inaugural Maker Faire was a huge success, with over 200 attendees. The event reaffirmed the importance of exposing students to STEAM education and fostering a love of science, technology, engineering, and math while broadening their horizons and allowing them to make informed decisions about their future.
