New Laws Aim to Enhance Special Education and Student Support

Illinois has introduced a series of new education laws that span various aspects of student development and support. These laws include provisions for special education, student advancement, higher education, accountability, curriculum, AI guidance, and immigrant rights. The goal is to create a more inclusive and supportive educational environment for all students.

One of the key areas addressed is special education. The new laws require schools to provide notice to parents about their rights as advocates for their children’s Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Additionally, schools must ensure that facilitators are accessible to assist families in navigating the special education process. Parents now have expanded access to their children’s mental health records, promoting greater transparency and involvement in their child’s educational journey.
