Focusing on early detection and screening for youth’s mental health and behavioral problems is important. A local program has gained recognition for doing this. HUGS, Health Under Guided Systems, has helped with this. The National Alliance on Mental Illness or NAMI of Collier County started this program. With an educational component to these programs too educating youth, HUGS and NAMI has helped many families with early detection.
