Dyslexia is a fairly common condition where one uses a different part of their brain when reading. About one in five children are diagnosed as dyslexic. In some schools they do screening for dyslexia to young children who are starting kindergarten. This screening allows educators and parents to catch this condition early on and provide dyslexic children with the support and educational tools they need to take on this lifelong learning disability. It is very important for parents to emphasize to their dyslexic children that this is something that can be accommodated and does not make them any less intelligent than their peers.
