Jordan’s Ministry of Education has introduced a groundbreaking AI-supported reading program, aiming to improve English reading fluency and comprehension among primary school students. This innovative initiative, developed in partnership with Amira Learning, Carter Education Group, and NorthStar Education, will initially target students in grades four and seven.
The program utilizes Amira’s AI learning agent, which listens to students read aloud and provides immediate feedback. This approach is grounded in the Science of Reading and designed to link assessment, instruction, and tutoring within a single platform. Teachers will participate in professional learning and coaching before a twelve-week instructional phase, with students completing pre- and post-program assessments to measure progress.
This initiative aligns with Jordan’s priorities around English language development, foundational literacy, and skills needed for participation in a global economy. The Ministry of Education emphasizes that English language proficiency is not just an academic requirement, but a critical skill that strengthens understanding, builds confidence, and connects students to the world.

"The program will begin with primary schools across multiple regions of Jordan, with plans to scale up to 800,000 students nationwide. The Ministry estimates that a full rollout could have a significant impact on English reading outcomes, generating national-level data to inform future literacy policy.
