Record-Breaking Launch

The Texas Education Freedom Account (EFA) program opened applications on February 4, 2026, and within the first hour, 8,000 families had already submitted their applications. By mid-February, more than 100,000 students had applied for the program that provides taxpayer-funded accounts for private school tuition, homeschooling expenses, and educational therapies.

The Texas legislature allocated $1 billion to fund this program in its first year, making it the largest state-funded education choice initiative in American history. With universal eligibility for all K-12 students, the program aims to serve approximately 90,000 students in its inaugural year, with priority given to students with disabilities and families earning below 200% of the federal poverty level.
