The state board responsible for public school standards in Nebraska has adopted new standards for its public high schools. The new math standards were approved by a vote of 7-1 after the state’s four boards representing Nebraska colleges and universities. Although the public school leadership expressed some misgivings about the lack of a four year requirement in math, the rules are designed to be “more focused and coherent” and give students a “deeper understanding” of their studies and enable better success in confronting math in the future.
