It is hugely important that children with learning disorders see examples of adults with the same disorders, who are succeeding in their life dreams. Wilson Elementary School in Pampa, TX had the privilege of giving kids with dyslexia exactly this sort of example: Neal Gardner, a detective for the Pampa Police Department, who has dyslexia, visited students with the same diagnosis. He talked to the students about his own struggles, successes, and methods of compensating for his dyslexia. Hopefully, all the kids walked away from the experience a little more confident that their diagnosis would never and could never define their future.
