Understanding ADHD as an Attention Surplus

ADHD is often misunderstood as an attention deficit, but it’s actually an attention surplus. This means that individuals with ADHD have a surplus of attention, but they struggle to control it and focus on the tasks that are truly important. When we have better sleep and are in better health, we have better access to our executive function, which gives us a better chance to make progress on the things that matter. However, when we’re tired or depleted, it becomes harder to control our attention and stay focused.
